My sister-in-law's father got remarried this weekend and she was in charge of the wedding. I volunteered to make the wedding cake for them.
My first wedding cake. I'm rather proud of it! the bottom layer is half devil's food with a raspberry filling, and 1/2 rice krispie treat. The middle layer is all rice krispies, and the top is all cake.
The ribbons on coming out of the top layer are part of a Peruvian tradition (the bride is Peruvian), similar to our throwing the bouquet tradition. Attached to the ribbons are little charms. All the single ladies gather around the cake and pull a ribbon, and whoever gets the ring charm is the next to get married!
It was rather stressful making the cake, but it turned out so well! I think I'll continue making them when asked. :)
I am still amazed at how well this turned out, especially for being your first wedding cake. Congrats again on the cake! It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fantastic job. I would be so scared to try a cake like that. I love the ribbons!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job you did and I know the bride and groom appreciated it. Congrats!! I miss the days when a family member would be getting married and all of the family would get together to pull it off. My mom made many a family wedding cake and she only got better with each one. Now it's all about expensive catered affairs with brides trying to outdo each other and of course, lots of debt - sad.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! I bet it took a lot of time. I used to decorate cakes.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous! I love the rich colors. I could eat half a devil's food cake today, I think ;)
ReplyDeleteRice krispies! That's awesome! The cake is beautiful. You done good.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Krystal! The idea of having some cool rice crispies treats at a wedding is great.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
