Grilled Asparagus

Do you need a quick side dish for your Memorial Day BBQ?  Give this grilled asparagus a try.  The flavor was perfect and the tips that got a bit crunchy?  Loved that so much.

I'm fairly new to grilling, we just received a hand-me-down grill from Captain Jax's parents.  They bought a new one, so had two lying around their house.  I'm pretty excited, since (as I've mentioned before) we don't have a/c or anything in our house.  Summer time can be rough when it comes to preparing meals.  I only dig my crockpot for so many things, I don't dare turn the oven on for hardly anything, and salads get pretty boring IMO.

This recipe is easy to adapt for all amounts of asparagus, it's just olive oil, salt, and pepper.  I think a splash or two of balsamic vinegar would be a nice addition.  Maybe next time!

Trim the ends of the asparagus by taking each end in each hand and bending.  Where it snaps is about where you want to cut all the ends off.  This gets rid of that woody bottom that's hard to eat.  Place all the asparagus in a zip-top bag and drizzle with olive oil.  Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.  Press the air out of the bag, seal it up, and using your hands mix up everything in the bag.  Get every piece coated.  You want to be able to see the pepper on the pieces.  Now go add some more salt and pepper, and mix again.
Prepare your grill, and grill over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes, turning occasionally (just use your grill tool and roll them).  Optionally, you could thread them on soaked skewers, so they look like a ladder, and grill them that way.  This cuts out the potential risk they could fall between the grates.
